Energy subsidies?

Gretch asked:

One of the favorite things for opponents of alternative energy sources to do is to point out that alternative energy can’t compete with conventional energy without government subsidies. Yet, numerous direct and indirect subsidies are given to fossil fuel sources like oil and coal, such as cheap loans from the Agriculture Department’s Rural Utilities Service. Indirect subsidies include items such as free public use of roads, tax credits for oil drilling, subsidized health care for respiratory illness and military actions needed to maintain a steady oil supply. Should we continue to subsidize dirty energy sources? If all subsidies, direct and indirect, were removed from fossil fuels, would they still be cheaper then alternative energy?

Rumor has it she’s going to model it on Massachusetts which forces all uninsured people to purchase a health care policy. It’s not optional. You aren’t given a choice. You buy a policy or they take your money and buy it for you. Low income people will get a subsidy.

1. Will this cause businesses that now cover their employees to drop coverage and let employees fend for themselves?

2. Will illegal aliens be forced into purchasing their own health care coverage and, if so, is it really the job of the US taxpayer to subsidies low income illegal aliens to help them pay?

I made tofu parmigiana last night, just to test it out and see if it is good or not, and it is GREAT!
But, chicken is good too, and offers more texture.

What are the health benefits of tofu over almost-fat-free-chicken ******?

She works full time but her employer charges an outrageous amount of money for health insurance. I know there are many many young people who don’t have health insurance, mostly because of the cost of high insurance premiums. But my daughter really needs it cause she has some health issues that will stay with her for a lifetime.
thanks everyone!

I currently use margarine, but I have been hearing some bad stuff about it. I am thinking about switching to butter, but would like to know the health benefits between them both. Which one is better for you?

I am eating that kind of wheat bread, it is kind of sweet but really good. I am just wondering about the health benefits/differences between white bread and wheat bread.
Looks like 100% whole wheat….We also bought other bread that has 7 whole wheats or something like that, my family has devoured that bag already :)

Obama’s newest plan is to take away health benefits from Veterans, is the only way Obama can get his health plan thru is to start screwing the people over changing the good parts of their health plans? He now thinks if a veteran gets hurt while on duty they should pay for it out of their pocket. Is this man insane?
If this plan passed anyone up for re-election next year won’t get re-elected! Thats for sure! I don’t think Obama has as much power as he thought he would! Thank goodness!
thehoydo RE: Don’t get too excited I have BC BS insurance- it don’t matter what insurance you got its the doctors and there is not many good ones at all! It depends where you live- all the good ones are in big cities. Everyone gets mis-diagnoised on a regular basis unless its obvious in my view. I have heard horror stories about our doctors in my town.

how will he be able to negotiate with health care companies to lower our costs when he is also planing on removing the 15 billion dollar tax subsidies given to these very companies that he will negotiate with. Isn’t removing these subsidies only going to raise our prices and/or bankrupt these companies entirely?
your thoughts?

GM has stated a high percentage of a new vehicles costs are in the Healthcare costs paid to workers who build the vehicles, as high as 25% to 35%. Well I live in Lansing Mi and have quite a few friends who have worked and currently do work for GM. Healthcare/Benefits are the one thing that has been consistently cut in their renewed contracts and with new and leased workers. Why then hasn’t the prices of their vehicles gone down?
