In New York City, is there a law that requires an employer to grant a temporary employee medical benefits?

I am coming up on my 6th month of temporary employment tomorrow at the same company. I would like medical benefits. They have been saying that they would hire me for about a month and a half now, but haven’t really addressed that situation. Thanks!

    benefits are a gift they are not required to give them and they can be taken away
